Long-serving gaming blog Game Informer is shutting down its opertations after 33 years. As reported by Kataku on Aug. 2, “GameStop killed” the magazine that began publishing in 1991 with a total of 367 issues. On Friday, the staff of Game Informer was told they were immediately laid off and would receive severance terms.
Game Informer was one of the last video gaming magazines in the world. The newest issue from June, 2024 titled “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” is the publication’s final printed piece. Even more disappointing, content on GameInformer.com has been completely removed with only a posting of the statement below.
The statement appeared on GameInformer’s X account on Friday, Aug. 2, 2024 at 8:46 am and so far has had 8.5M views. We’re not sure how many hits to GameInformer.com have been recorded.
